BIOL 5099 Course Highlight: Provides the theoretical and conceptual framework for sustainable agriculture with underlying dynamics of environmental factors, crops plants and animals. Topics include biotic & abiotic factors influencing agriculture; diversity, interaction & ecology of agroecosystems; and ways of transition towards sustainability.
Sustainable Forestry
BIOL 5099 Course Highlight: Introduction to the art and science of sustainable forest management. Topics include basics of forestry science, global & regional forests, forest management including silviculture, wildlife, fire & watershed management, forest dendrology & ecology, forest products & economics, social forestry, forest certification, and urban forestry.
Biology of Plants
BIOL 3535 Course Highlight: An introduction to the biology of plants. Topics include the evolution and diversity of plants, as well as the unique morphology, physiology, reproduction and ecology of higher plants in particular. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 2107, BIOL 2107L, BIOL 2108, BIOL 2108L, and permission of the instructor.
Environmental Biology
BIOL 1230 Course Highlight: A consideration of environmental issues and ecological processes including interspecific interactions, community dynamics, biodiversity, and the major biomes of the world. Human impact on earth, population growth, conservation, energy production, food production, and pollution will be related to those basic ecological processes.
Plants and Civilization
BIOL 1335 Course Highlight: An introduction to major groups of economic plants and their role in the origin and maintenance of civilization. The course also deals with plant biodiversity and the potential impact of biological losses.
